For the second year in a row, we the Resident Directors (RD’s) have had the opportunity to share about the young adult ministry that happens here at the lake throughout the summer. While the fruits of the summer youth ministry may be more apparent, there is a hidden young adult ministry happening behind the scenes that is just as vibrant.
We love every second of getting to minister to these young adults. As RD’s, we partner with supervisors and the community to walk alongside young adults through a transitory part of their lives. Investing in the lives of summer staff is a rich opportunity as we welcome new high school graduates wrapping up their senior year to college grads searching for their next season.
No matter where summer staff spends their time, the hours can be long, and exhaustion can easily set in. One of our prayers for the staff comes from Psalm 51:10-12:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
Our prayers have already been answered in many ways, and we know that God will continue to work in the lives of our staff. Recently, we witnessed a staff member lead a student to Christ during the second week of camp. God’s salvation created in him a joy that was evident, sprinting and shaking staff members proclaiming that God is good. We also recognize that some staff don’t fully see God’s work completed yet, especially in the mundane and behind the scenes work. This is an area of service that the RD’s get to enter into, joining them in their workplace, building them up, and pointing them towards the joy of God’s salvation.
Through this example, our focus is to pour into the young adults’ hearts and encourage them to be servant leaders as they dive deeper into their relationship with the Lord all while serving campers and guests. To accomplish this, there are nightly opportunities for discipleship and growth for summer staffers with each RD leading or co-leading a bible study through the book of Matthew. Summer staff are invited to engage in the Summer Teaching Series, hosted by Adult Ministries, and also a weekly young adults’ group with worship and teaching, which the RD’s organize and call Overflow.
If you’re interested in partnering with us this summer we would love prayer for unity, health, and wisdom amongst our summer staff. May the next seven weeks glorify God and edify the summer staff beyond their time here.
With a prayerful heart,
The 2024 Resident Directors (Garrett, Joey, Ana, Morgan, and Becca)
