I had the pleasure of interviewing Nate Van Verst, Senior Director of Guest Relations at Hume. Dive in to learn about his journey with Hume, his passion for the ministry, and to see his go-to order for the Snack Shop…
Hi Nate- We are so happy to have you back at Hume as the Sr. Director of Guest Relations. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a Christian, a husband, a father of two, and a grandfather of one. I love my Lord and Savior, my family, my church, and camp.
You have a long history at Hume. Can you tell us about where you have worked in the past and a little bit about your Hume story?
Thirty years ago, I started my first Summer in the Snack Shop flipping burgers. I had the time of my life that Summer and left to go to school not realizing I would return. The next Summer I was back, this time in Ponderosa Kitchen. God did a work in my life that Summer (1995) and helped me to see how I could serve full-time at Hume. I worked for ten years in Food Service before transferring to the General Store where I managed for about three years. After that, I moved into Registration and continued to oversee all Retail where I ended my first tour of 16 years. A little over three years later, I came back to Hume and worked in our IT department for another five years when COVID happened, and my second tour came to an end. Another three years passed, and I was brought back to Guest Relations which happens to encompass all the areas I worked in previously.
Can you tell us about your wife and kids?
Kara and I met working in the kitchen at Hume, became friends, and then more. We have been married for 26 years, praise God! We have two children, Noah and Anelise. Noah (23) is currently serving our country in the Army, married to Taylor (24), and together they have Jackson (1). Anelise (20) is joining Hume this Summer in Meadow Ranch!
What are you most excited about for your comeback to the organization?
The opportunity to serve and pour into the next generation of Hume staff is what I’m most excited about.
Why is Hume so meaningful to you?
God has used this ministry to change my life. I met my wife here. My kids grew up here. The list goes on.
Very important Hume question. What is your go-to order at the Snack Shop?
Corn dog with chili cheese fries, and a coffee & cookies milkshake.
How can we all be praying for you and your family?
Wisdom and discernment for the job of leading this great team. For my family, I would ask for protection.
How can we pray for the team you have at Hume?
Pray that we would all keep our eyes fixed on the King! It is in His service that we have been deployed to serve in His kingdom. If we do that, our guests will have great experiences.
