This winter was an amazing season of camp. We challenged students with the book of Ecclesiastes and had them ask themselves who or what they are living for. We wanted them to evaluate how they are trying to find hope, peace, and satisfaction and how that affects their lives.
As I reflect on this season of camp, I was reading through a stack of commitment cards. A commitment card is something students can fill out when they make some decision at camp. These cards can be filled out after a first-time decision to follow Christ, a rededication, repentance, etc. All cards start with the same three words printed on them: “I am committing…” followed by a few rows of blank lines for students to write out their thoughts on what they are committing to.
While reading through the stack, I came across a card with four simple words written after the I am committing part- it said, “My life to Jesus.”
This is what we get to be a part of here at Hume. Amidst the craziness of camp, stresses of budgets, staffing needs, logistics, snow, and the never-ending list of tasks, one simple yet profound sentence makes it all worth it: “I am committing my life to Jesus.” An eternity changed! We will worship our King forever alongside this individual whose eternity was changed this past winter at camp. What a thing to celebrate!
Thank you for your partnership with Hume. I hope this brings you joy and encouragement and a little glimpse into what the Lord did in the lives of many campers this winter!
