Meet Tyler Reed

By: Richelle Latona

I had the pleasure of interviewing our new Hume SoCal Facilities Manager, Tyler Reed. Read on to hear about his history with Hume, his heart for the ministry and to see how he feels about a Hume Milkshake…

Tyler- We are happy to have you as the new Hume SoCal Facilities Manager. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a simple guy that enjoys being a husband and dad. I love working with my hands and seeing projects to fruition. I enjoy being with people and taking part in community living. I’m thankful for all the ways God has allowed me to serve Him through service and building things.

We had been praying for the right person for this job. How did you find out about Hume SoCal?

I heard about the launch of Hume SoCal years ago, but didn’t really cross my mind until I was told about the Facilities Manager position. When I saw the job description I knew this would be a great fit for me as well as my family and from there God worked out all the details. I’ve only been here a month, but already I love this camp and the people that have been faithfully serving here.

You have some history at Hume. Can you tell us about where you have worked in the past and a little bit about your Hume story?

When I was young kid a love for camping ministry was ignited. I was a Ponderosa camper and counselor with my church. I attended Joshua in 2005 and then worked different seasons of Outdoor Education, Red Coating winter camps, and doing Recreation in Meadow Ranch. All those furthered a love and passion to work in camping ministry. I met my closest friends as well as my wife in those seasons of working at Hume. It was always in the back of my mind it was always a dream to work at Hume again but for various reasons it was never the right time. I see now that the past fifteen years was God preparing me for this specific job in this season at Hume SoCal.

Can you tell us about your wife and kids?

I met my wife, Katy, at Hume in 2008 while she was working in the ark skate window and I was working as a red coat. We are  coming up on our fourteenth wedding anniversary and have five kids ranging twelve to one. We enjoy being outside, swimming, disc golfing, and dance parties.

What are you most excited about for your comeback to the organization?

It was an unexpected surprise that the Lord would bring me back to working at Hume and it is something I’m so thankful for. I am excited to partner with the ministry and mission of Hume. Fulfilling the great commission is a a conviction I have as I lead my family and live my life and I’m thankful to be able to do this with Hume ministries.

Very important Hume question. Hume Pazookie or Hume Milkshake? You can only choose one.

Mint Chip Hume milkshake all the way. Though I do love a good Wildwood pizookie dance.

How can we all be praying for you and your family?

That our family would get connected at a church and build community here at camp and locally. For our whole family as we continue to adjust to this new transition.

How can we pray for Hume SoCal and the team you work with there?

Pray that the Lord would use SoCal and staff to reach the lost and broken. That lives would be radically transformed to fear God and serve Him. Pray for joy, faithfulness and safety for my team as we serve the staff and guests.
