Hume Alumni Spotlight: Deanna Lovecchio

Our Hume Alumni Spotlight is on Deanna Lovecchio!

My first night ever staying at Hume was the first night of Joshua, 2003. Before that, I had been to the snack shop and the lake whenever my family camped in the canyon. But that was it.

I started the Joshua Wilderness Institute the day before my 21st birthday. I was excited and pretty nervous. I had absolutely no idea the impact those 9 months were going to have on me.

Growing up in a Christian home, I’ve always had faith. But Joshua was the first time I was challenged to make my faith my own! The memories of Joshua will always be special. After Joshua I was summer staff in the General Store and then stayed on there for full time for a year! I loved it! One of my favorite things to be a part of while full-time was the staff youth group.

After a year, I missed home, so I returned to Stockton, Ca. Since then, I’ve had a few jobs. I have worked in a coffee shop, as a Pastoral assistant, and in a doctor’s office.

I married my high school crush, Ryan.  We’ve known each other since we were 13. He finally got around to liking me when we were 27. And we were married in 2011. We began our family soon after and now have 3 boys!

I have the joy and challenge of homeschooling our boys and the privilege to work for our church, First Baptist Church of Stockton, in the children and families’ ministry called FBC Kids. I have been blessed to be appointed to a leadership role in one of Stockton’s most dynamic children and family ministries. God
has created an opportunity for me to lead large community events where thousands of non-church goers hear the word of God, help create VBS styled Sunday services and help lead a team to create process’s and protocols to ensure endurance and longevity for FBC Kids. But what I’ve discovered in this
process is that I love teaching God’s Word to kids. I am blessed to be a part of amazing things God is doing for kids and families of the city of Stockton. It is just plain awesome! I wasn’t really looking to be on staff at our church, being a stay at home mom for about 10 years, but it has been nothing but fun to be used for His purpose at out church. And I can’t wait to see what the Lord has planned in the future.

I’ve learned that God is always good and faithful. He is excellent at using all things, even the things that don’t make sense to us, for our good! And saying yes to Him, even when the plan makes us nervous or seems crazy, is a fun way to experience life! And I highly recommend it!
