Last month I had the pleasure of running our Fall Volunteer Week. There was so much fun, food, and fellowship. We had a small, but mighty crew that came to help and many projects and tasks were accomplished. We are forever thankful for all they did! Here are some of the highlights:
- We had a team of volunteers help to extend the paintball course, making a new fun course for campers and guests to enjoy.
- People raked pine needles to help our buildup not be as hard to remove when it comes time to rake them again (it also really helps with fire prevention).
- We had a group build an overhang from the General Store roof to the path where staff walk to check mail at the Post Office. This has been such a dangerous path during the winter with many icicles hanging and a slippery ice path. Our mail lady has to walk it carrying all the packages that arrive during the winter! In the summer, camper mail sometimes has to sit in the hot sun as it is waiting to be delivered. This will be an amazing addition to help during any weather that comes our way.
During our nights together, the volunteers got a little glimpse of the behind the scenes here at Hume from different staff members that live here year-round. This time is always a reminder of Romans 12:4-8. With all of our different gifts we have been given, we are all still one in Christ. It’s a beautiful reminder watching all those parts come together and work for the Glory of God and without each part we wouldn’t be able to function the same. So, thank you to everyone who uses their gifts and talents to help serve the Kingdom.
We have two weeks out of the year dedicated to Volunteer Weeks. Our next time together will be coming up in the spring, May 13-16, 2024 to get ready for summer. Consider coming alongside our staff and serving and sharing your gifts together in the Lord!
If you are a contractor or have a special skill that may benefit camp, contact Morgan at mzielsdorf@hume.org as we have dozens of projects throughout the year that need attention. We are always looking for the extra help!
